MEDAN | MEDIA 24 JAM.COM- The legal counsel representing residents and journalists who were allegedly assaulted during a protest in front of PT Universal Gloves (UG) on October 6, 2025, Riki Irawan, S.H., M.H., has strongly refuted accusations questioning his professionalism as a lawyer.

“My name and profession were wrongfully mentioned in several reports. I was accused of joining the protest without a power of attorney, while in fact, I was there in my official capacity as the legal representative of the residents and journalists who were allegedly assaulted with a helmet during the protest,” Riki told reporters on Wednesday (October 22, 2025).

Riki emphasized that the accusations likely came from five individuals who disrupted the demonstration, along with two lawyers identified by their initials TFS and FM, whose actions he described as beyond ethical limits and damaging to the integrity of the legal profession.

“Because of these actions, I will file an official report with the Medan Police in the coming days. It is crucial that law enforcement takes firm action against those who have allegedly violated the law,” Riki asserted firmly.

He explained that this legal move was not merely an act of self-defense but also a stand for the rule of law.

“Acts of intimidation against citizens and journalists cannot be tolerated. The state must be present to protect the rights of its people,” he added.

Riki also urged the police to promptly act on the reports filed by the residents, journalists, and himself.

“I demand that the authorities move swiftly to investigate and detain the five individuals suspected of being backed by PT UG, along with their two lawyers, TFS and FM,” he said.

According to him, the actions of these individuals not only attacked citizens and journalists but also tarnished the honor of the legal profession.

“This should serve as a lesson to everyone – that both peaceful protest and journalistic activities are rights protected by law,” Riki reiterated.

In conclusion, Riki stressed that he would continue to act professionally and uphold legal ethics.

“I will not back down in my pursuit of justice for my clients. Anyone who tries to obstruct that will face me in court,” he declared resolutely.(lin)
